As a teenager and young adult, I loved reading Tom Clancy. I lost interest at some point, but I really enjoyed his early books. Yes, his writing was very pro-American, to put it mildly. Still, he was the master of the techno-thriller. And The Hunt for Red October was simply brilliant, both as a book and later as a film. I got it for Christmas in 1990 or 1991 and read it more times than I can count in the years that followed.
PS: These days, I can’t picture Marko Ramius as anyone but Sean Connery.
