In 2023 I gave away this book-shaped blend of candy floss, halva and the entire display case of a Turkish bakery as a gift. Fortune-cookie wisdom on every page. But sometimes that’s exactly what you need. A boy meets a mole, a fox and a horse, and together they talk about friendship, courage and accepting help. Yes, that’s right – self-help in full, glorious coloooour.
Later I bought the book again for myself, mostly because of the drawings. This is the edition with the illustrations from the Oscar-winning short film, not the plainer ink drawings of the earlier editions.
Besides the lovely pictures, it also holds a truly fundamental piece of wisdom: “If at first you don’t succeed, have some cake.”
