Redundant

The street in front of my house gets a new cycleway on the inbound side of the street. While this is a really great idea because the old one was in an abysmal state, currently I have some problems with the works. Since the start of the construction work, I had two internet outages in the last few days alone.

This house has currently two internet connections (one by cable, one by VDSL) because of the migration from one provider to the other. This is a lucky situation currently, as the VDSL connection is out since Saturday.

In this house internet connection started to very critical because of remote work. My tenants can use the WLAN as long as they behave: Don’t do anything illegal and adhere to a “patch early, patch often” policy in regard of the devices. Currently there are three remote workers in this house and so internet is a very important tool.

Currently it’s not that much of a problem for me. But when I’m not on vacation, I have only mobile internet as a fallback for example to attend video conference and that’s often not that elegant.

When discussing with customers or friends about the job, I always point out that so many processes are depending on network connections, that redundant internet connections are a must. Since weekend, I’m thinking “Really, yeah, no sh*t, Joerg”. Decided to keep both internet connections and wait the next months if internet availability stabilizes again. In any case, I take a 5G backup in very close consideration the next few months.
