I feel obliged to point out that this blog post is roughly 2 years and 5 months old. People change, opinions evolve. In just a few years, vast technological landscapes can shift. And don't get me started on config files. Please consider this text in the context of its time.

I wrote this morning that my house has currently no VDSL internet, just cable internet. I’m just back from the street in front of my home. Roughly 50 m away there is a suspiciously clean cable with a suspiciously new cable sleeve. Now I really think that the proverbial excavator killed my internet connection, that excavator people are talking about when you are talking with them about high availability and disaster recovery. Thought I would never meet him. Perhaps I talked too often about the excavator and conjured him up from the depths of a world of pain stemming from split brains.
