The challenges of the 1 Terabyte disk

At StorageMojo, Robin makes some interesting points about the upcoming 1 TB discs, but forgets the most important one. We reach the amount of storage (at least in even moderatly sized RAIDs) to have a high probablity of running into an unrecoverable read error and thus reading wrong data. Thus you are in desperate need of an additional layer of checks to ensure you read correct data (something like the ZFS checksumms) and to ensure an rebuild of your RAID-set will not blow up your datasets. I don´t think, that most operating systems nor storage systems are really ready for the multiterabyte harddisk age.
