PSARC/2009/685 - Basic Network Privilege

At the end of the last year, an interesting case found its way into the ARC process: PSARC/2009/685 Basic Network Privilege. This privilege would control the ability of a process to open a network connection. Without this privilege a process simply can’t open a network connection. As the name of the case suggests, it is a basic privilege thus a process has this privilege by default and you have to configure away. There was a discussion raging about the side effects for IPC via loopback, but as you have to configure this privilege away deliberately i’m fine with those side effects.
