In a mail to the respective communities, the developers announced the integration of ZFS into FreeBSD 7.0-RELEASE. Good news.

The first set of patches to use ZFS in FreeBSD are available. You will find some informations about it here. I think FreeBSD will the first OS outside of the Solaris sphere to completly support ZFS in kernel space.

Bryan Cantrill gives an Update about the porting of DTrace to dtrace. And while John Birrell developed the port, the Linux folks still implement bells and whistles without havn´t solved the real problems of observability.

The third operating system is available for the T1: FreeBSD is selfhosting now. It´s stable enough to run through a make buildworld. It´s facinating how fast the ports are done to this architecture.
I think that the delopers see the T1 as an very attracting target. And additionally the ports are done against sun4v, not against the T1. sun4v was developed to build an abstraction between processor hardware and operating system, so the work on kernel ports should be done for the foreseeable future.

Devon O´Dell hat einen grossen Schritt in Richtung der Portierung von Dtrace auf Freebsd vollzogen. Wundert mich nicht, das diese Meldung ausgerechnet auf dem FreeBSD-Lager kommt. Bei Linux wird sich wahrscheinlich noch ueber das passende Framework gestritten
