It´s a thing i will try out in the next few days. Can i use ZFS, iSCSI and Thumper to improve the already excellent SamFS HSM filesystem? Can i solve the problem of migration in storage media life cycle managment en passant?

Darren Moffat makes in his weblog a very intersting objection: Imagine the following scenario. You need a NTFS filesystem with data integrity checks like in ZFS. Impossible? Not really. In OpenSolaris you have the iSCSI target functionality. Sonner or later this will apear in Solaris. Nothing bars you to present your Windows NT initator to use ZFS as the backend filesystem for an Solaris iSCSI target, for example on a X4500 Storage Server. Et voila, you married ZFS and NTFS. And the possibilities are vast and endless.

I hate the big discussion forums at IT news sites. They are full of trolls. My favourite trollishness at the moment is the comment "The X4500 is fucking expensive. I can build one of my own for 10 grands". Okay, let´s talk about this statement.

Or it will be doomed for sure. Keep it in the server group, where there is at least a chance that customers will be able to discover the virtues of this box on their own.

On Jonathan´s weblog you find two interesting facts: An image of the Thumper beast and by the filename the name of the system was somehow announced by Jonathan: Sun Fire X4500 (the file is named X4500_lowres.1024x768.jpg)
