As you may have noticed, my blogs showed some instabilities yesterday. The reasons for this were some problems of lighttpd in conjunction with php5-cgi. The root cause for this: Trackback spamming(plenty of it) resulting in load problems. Well, this issue starts to get really nasty.

I thought a little bit about this problem yesterday evening, and i have an idea for a Web 2.0 service: A centralized spam clearing house. The basic idea is to redirect all trackback calls to this service, as long their do not come from the clearing house (or trusted systems). The service scans the trackback for spam and submits the trackback on the behalf of the originating server to the trackback functionality of the original server. The same should be possible for the comment function of weblogs. It´s similar to the service Feedburner offers to offload the generation of RSS feeds.

I would even pay some money for such a server, as don´t have to rent faster servers every half year. I even thought about shuting down this weblog in june after the first big black-out of this blog. Fighting spam on different servers as a service would make my life much easier.

PS: Would be a nice job for a UltraSPARC T2 server

Five or six people already asked me, why i use my smartphone (an Nokia E61, when you look around at CEC it seems, that half the production of this phone has gone to Sun) in the sessions and type messages troughout the . It´s not that i´m ruining Sun by sending short messages to a love interest (okay, at least not at the keynotes, and i prefer IM for that ... national GSM short messages are expensive, the price for international ones is outright obscene ).

It´s much simpler ... i feed my blog with this phone. Well, not directly and not for the long articles, but when you look at the front page you see a block of five short messages on the top. This block is feeded by my twitter-account, This feed gets it´s input from the simplified mobile twitter interface. And now the E61 comes into play: It has WLAN, it has a webbrowser .. all you need to feed twitter (and thus all you need to blog a short message) while sitting in a keynote or walking around at the conference. This is Web 2.0 as i want it .. a simple way to connect services to produce content with several (very different) input devices.

Das schöne an Technik ist der Umstand, das die meisten Systeme im Grunde genommen Multiple-Use-Techniken sind. Sie haben im Grunde genommen einen Hauptanwendungzweck, aber können für eine vielzahl anderer Dinge verwendet werden. Keiner wird bestreiten, das das GSM-Netz in Deutschland eigentlich zur Kommunikation gedacht ist, sozusagen dessen Hauptzweck ist.

Bei der Suche nach einem Tool, um den "Now Playing"-Teil in meinem Weblog wiederzubeleben, bin ich über last.fm gestolpert. Nettes Tool. Klassisches Beispiel fürs Web 2.0. Ein einfacher Service, das ein Problem löst, gemischt mit Social Networking. Das ganze möglichst effizent und gut.
