I wonder what the real point behind this port is.. and whether it's actually worth the effort. Isn't ARM more or less the diametral opposite of Solaris' main focus: the big irons? Solaris, at least the latest releases, aren't really ressource conserving.. and power is a crucial point in embedded or mobile devices. Solaris' kernel alone requires more cpu power and memory than a small Linux installation.. and then you're still missing many services. I doubt the result of this "port" will resemble Solaris much.. beyond the boot banner.
(I've stopped upgrading beyond Solaris 2.6 on my really low-power boxes because of the steep increase in requirements in 7 and 8. Sol10 would be unthinkable on e.g. an SS5). |
