Bryan Cantrill has a new job

Just in case you are asking yourself, where Bryan Cantrill will work in the future - it's Joyent:

Joyent, a leading global provider of cloud computing solutions, today named Bryan Cantrill as VP of Engineering. Cantrill will be responsible for overseeing worldwide development focused on operating systems, including building additional innovation into Joyent’s SmartOS and SmartDataCenter.

Great, great catch for Joyent … and a huge loss for Oracle.

Honour your expertise, its the greatest asset, but the most difficult to reclaim after its loss.

Well ... i see it otherwise ... it may be a loss for Oracle, but a win for the Opensolaris community. And in this way, the expertise isn't lost for Solaris.

I wish Bryan would go work for Apple along with other Sun Engineers who are considering leaving. Apple buying Sun would have kept Sun tech from stagnating and eventually dying.

The future looks shaky under Oracle. The eerie silence towards OpenSolaris and MySQL isn't too comforting and Sun's involvement with Linux means less attention on Solaris.
