Oracle announced the Sun Ray 3 Plus today. The Sun Ray 3 plus is quite a step compared to the Sun Ray 2 FS. The 3 plus provides Gigabit Ethernet (instead of just 100 MBit/s), you can drive two display via DVI Dual Link (2560 x 1600 per display) instead of two displays with 1920 x 1200, you have 4 USB 2.0 ports instead of 3 USB 1.1 ports. And even more important: The new device sports a power button

Seriously ... customers asked quite frequently for such a button ...

Oh i like that hardware. Cat find the coast ß Is the software inculded ? Because licensing of Sun Ray Software is a little confusing.

2 typos on page 3?
"Gigabit ethenet RJ-45 port" (missing 'r', Ethernet is capitalized : e.g. http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=466497)

I consider this a Freudian slip of the keyboard that Gigabit Ethernet was long overdue for this fine client.

Wie sieht es denn mit den Preisen aus?
Auf der Seite von Oracle konnte ich nur die Sun Ray 2-Modelle finden.

Schade das die SunRay 3 Plus erst jetzt kommt, das ist für einige unserer Projekte 2-3 Jahre zu spät. Gott was bin ich unserem Sunny in den Ohren gelegen ... wann kommen die neuen SunRays? ... nun ist es leider viel zu spät. Ich kann es auch überhaupt nicht verstehen ... gibt es tatsächlich noch Neukunden die wirklich heute noch die SunRay 270 kaufen?!

Ich muss an dieser Stelle mal zugeben, das ich kein Fan der Bildschirm-integrierten SunRays bin. Aus dem selben Grund, aus dem ich auch keinen iMac habe ...

Allerdings: Ja ... es gibt Kunden, die die auch heute noch kaufen. Die Dinger haben naemlich an bestimmten Arbeitsplätzen einen entscheidenen Vorteil: Ein 17-Zöller nimmt nicht so viel Platz weg. Ich denke da beispielsweise an Schalterarbeitsplätze.

Was hat Dir exakt an den alten SunRays gefehlt?

Der Ausschalter?
Mich hat es jedenfalls irritiert, das man die kleinen Kisten nur durch ziehen der Stromversorgung ausschalten kann.
Oder sollte es da eine Tastenkombination geben die ich nicht probiert habe (das kommt davon wenn man sich die Kisten gebraucht und ohne Handbücher zulegt).

Ja ... da hast Du recht ... der hat auf jeden Falll gefehlt. Es gibt einige Tastenkombinationen, aber leider keine die das Gerät ausschaltet.

Allerdings vermute ich, das die Idee des fehlenden Ausschalters dadurch entstanden ist, das die Kiste in Betrieb lange weniger Strom verbraucht hat als andere im Standby ....

Wir hätten schon damals 19" besser 20" Displays mit integrierter SunRay gebraucht. Ok das hätten wir noch mit einer 2FS regeln können (eine 2FS hab ich noch hinter mir am Arbeitsplatz liegen ;-), hauptsächlich waren es performance/treiber Probleme die es mit USB gab.
