I agree, it has been a very ill and stupid waiting...full of stupid statements...I was so much waiting for them to release Oracle and let them start the new ball rolling...
...and now...now I feel sorry for seeing Sun eaten so fast...sorry for seeing Oracle logo over everything that was Sun...sorry for seeing all that red on pages that were so tenderly blue or violet... ...and worried about OpenSolaris...should I trust and continue to keep my solid faith on this sistem I used to administer for almost 20 years? Right now, we're on the process of switching all our software bundles from Solaris to OpenSolaris...is it a safe step? I'm worried...
Well, I am being paid to take care of Solaris 10 systems and my company will continue to use it. But the relatively small community of Solaris/OpenSolaris home users is dying. I had an OpenSolaris home server but replaced it with a linux server. For me it's a dead end in which I am not willing to invest.
Well, I don't think many people were using Solaris at home before Oracle acquisition too, I see home servers more as Linux geeks stuff.
But Solaris on business has too many features I would miss on Linux, and Linux has too many distributions that just make confusion to me.
The article doesn't explain why the adquisition of Sun is going to be a sucessfull. It only says that we all know: Oracle is a very profitable company that has done well in the past.
Yes. And I just don't like the way they're killing all of Sun brands.
They could just buy, help, let live, control and get earnings. Stuff like NetBeans, even though taken by Sun, did not change the brand. And they still live as in the beginning. Same for StarOffice. Same fo VirtualBox. Almost same for everything Sun Acquired. This is why, to me, many well known people is leaving now. I just hope for Solaris future. All the other stuff (Java, OpenOffice, MySql and hardware) look to me in safe hands, as they're too important to be killed.
0. This documents relates to Solaris 10
1. Don't think that's a problem, because almost every home server works with Opensolaris. 2. I'm not a lawyer nor a part of the licensing department of Oracle but "In order to use the Solaris operating system for perpetual commercial use, each system running Solaris must be expressly licensed to do so.
