Nice thoughts. I agree on the general conclusion. But at least One question remains: Couldn't You have written this on some of the other decades too? Not totally lost if we have learned the lesson, but the next ten years later we still have not.
In my opinion, this decade was the most catastrophic so far: The third Gulf war, 9/11, subprime economic crisis, dot com bubble, the oil price crisis just stopped by the sub prime crisis, Bush II, Star Wars Episode II and III (
When don't learn now, we will not learn ever.
At least the 80's and 90's look fantastic from now:
- 80's: End of GDR - 90's: End of GDR, end of Soviet Union, rise of the Internet...
Well, when following your logic we have a decade of terrorism ahead of us, not only from outside the western world, but from the inside as well. Why? Well, who wouldn't call Wallstreet captains arrogant? And if arrogance is the source of terrorism, well... qed...
Don't get me wrong - I would really love to be blamed in ten years for this faulty deduction.
We are generating people with nothing to loose on a big scale. I will not be surprised, if a physicist, being ten years on Hartz IV, will go in a big bang, if he gets the message, he cannot get a cancer cure, because of the budget.
