Samba?
what's about zfs built in cifs with samfs, will such an option be supported? I am talking about the 7000.
At the moment there is no need for such a feature, as there is no SamFS for the S7000 series, thus no offlined files.
There is a great article on the opensolaris web site on how samfs could be used on top of zfs and I was wondering if such features will make it in the zfs file system. we use zfs for many windows hosts (currently with samba), but looking to migrate to native zfs/cifs
http://hub.opensolaris.org/bin/view/User+Group+qosug/sam-and-zfs
The challenge is: SamFS doesn't use ZFS for it's filesystem structure, just the container-files or the emulated disk devices are on ZFS. Thus you have to use the filesystem semantics of SamFS not ZFS, and the SamFS part doesn't have the ability to store SIDs as a user for example.
Samba 3.0.37 ... wtf? Still waiting for a Sun supported 3.3/3.4
"Please note that Samba 3.0 is not under maintenace any longer. This release has been shipped on a voluntary basis."
There are no changes of the major release for a software components in a stable release of the Solaris Operating Environment.
So there will never be a patch to Samba 3.4.x for Solaris 10? That's.. weird.
For Solaris that might be ok under the given rules. OpenSolaris repos do not offer something beyond 3.0, too - last checked in September. Anyway ...
If you read the mail in the caselog,
Samba 3.3 has been held up by GPLv3 review. eli101: They talk about using PSARC/2007/315 for CIFS server support in OpenSolaris, but this patch only for Solaris 10 I think.
