We had 1U quad Opterons. It is impossible to cool 4x Opteron 8220SE. 4x 8220 is working, but still very very hot.
How many sockets does the blade have? 16? 32? This surely produces a lot of heat, too.
The opteron blade chassis blade has 4 sockets per blade. The whole chassis can cold 40 sockets. But we needed to design a special air-flow to cool the gear down.
Golem has pics from the sun hardware: http://www.golem.de/0704/51741.html
32x FB-Dimm surely produces a lot heat! Probably the same amount as a quad opteron System... that's how much? 1200W per blade? |
