What a bullshit over here : Sun Microsystems: More Layoffs Appear Needed. This analysis is neither insighful nor a really an analysis. An analysis is more than dividing some some numbers. Can you really compare a vendor of office supplies with a vendor of computer systems? Who should sell product, that need some explanations for the first and second sold machine, before customers get the the point of multicore nics and multicore processors. The third and forth machine is an easy sell. Like printer ink or glossy paper.
Oh, one remark regarding our future: I saw the faces of some customers coming out of the whisper suite at CeBIT. With my own "glow in the eyes"-benchmark: Be afraid, competition, be really afraid!

I disagree that their analysis is not really an analysis. I cannot find a factual error, and their conclusion follows from their premises. The problem is that their premises are wrong (or at least incomplete). they look at just the numbers. Almost any company looks like it can make more profit if it reduces the number of employees. The problem is that you have no way to tell by this when the reductions become self-defeating. Furthermore, Sun is a company in transition, reinventing itself and changing the industry, further clouding the issue of how many people are enough.
The question is: Is an analysis, that takes the most important points out of the equation, an analysis or only a biased view to make a point by taking some suitable numbers.
