The story behind my decision to work for Sun

Five and a half years ago, i had two job opportunities, which were in my final round of decision. One was a job with an exceptional salary as a manager in Frankfurt, but, well ... it was in Frankfurt, and this counts as a big disadvantage for me. And i had this offer from Sun without an exceptional salary but with a vast amount of freedom in Hamburg.

So it was a remi between the offers. I drove to both cities, i´ve took long walks in both cities. When i drove home, it was already dark and i took the scenic route to the Autobahn. Not the shortest one. And finally this view decided about my new job:

Ich war vor wenigen Wochen in Hamburg (komme selbst aus Wien) und werde bald wieder nach Hamburg fahren (es gibt noch so viel anzusehen). Du hast sicher die richtige Entscheidung getroffen. Hamburg ist wirklich toll. (Vielleicht zieh ich mal hin, wenn ich einen Job und eine Wohnung bekomme, die lieben Kinderleins studieren, ...

)

Ich wohne nun schon seit fast 40 Jahren hier, Schule, Studium, Arbeit. Manchmal beschleicht mich das Gefühl, ich hätte 'mal woanders was aufziehen sollen. Aber nach jedem Spaziergang an Alster oder Elbe komm' ich hier irgendwie nicht "wech".
