Privacy is a tradeoff. For example: I use Google Reader, Google Analytics and Google Search, so they see my web usage habits. But they will never see my mail. This is one of the reasons why i operate an own mailserver.
I donīt think that using a google servic e make the points of the movie less valid. Itīs not a film against using one google service, itīs a warning to use google without a thought and using all components of google to give them the complete image.
"Privacy is a tradeoff"
Yep. Either you take part in the web and give away your privacy or you turn of your computer, get rid of your mobile phone and lock yourself down in some basement What is selling privacy worth? How much money do people get for having Adsense adverts on their websites? Just thinking about it, how many people are using Opera 9.10 and how many of these people are using SunOS 5.11, and how many of these people are on SPARC, and how many people have the same screen resolution as me, and how many of these people have disabled cookies, and how many of these people have disabled JavaScript/ECMAscript? How many people append &num=100 to http://google.com/search?q=some+stuff ? Even using tor, I'm trackable (of course there are many other ways to fingerprint me). It's a numbers game; and I feel really naked surfing the net Quoting Martin Englund's motto: "The question is not if you are paranoid, it is if you are paranoid enough." The movie is a start to raise awareness. Kudos to the artists |
