Noch einer zum Thema HP-UX

Einen habe ich noch zum Thema HP-UX. Paul Murphy schreibt in seinem Blog:

Oddly, I think irt does, because if you're still using HP-UX there's an important message here: it's way past time to move to either Linux or Solaris, because your preferred vendor is busily petting you on the head with one hand, while doing nothing for you with the other.

Das kommt halt davon, wenn man sein Unix bei einem Unternehmen für Druckerbedarf kauft

Ich sehe auch keinen Grund sich für AIX zu entscheiden, es sei denn man hat es schon im Haus. Meiners erachtens wird AIX nur noch gekauft, weil die POWER CPUs wirklich gute Single-Thread Performance liefern oder man ein rundumpaket von IBM kauft. Wenn man aber die AIX genauer anschaut und mit einem aktuellen Solaris anschaut, merkt man, dass wichtige Kleinigkeiten fehlen. So wie z.B. RBAC, flexibilität bei Anbindung an LDAP, Least Privilege-Modell, Zonen, ZFS, SMF und die Integration dieser. Kurz, die Eleganz des Zusammenspiels. Diese Kleinigkeiten werden natürlich von Management das sich für IBM entscheidet, gerne übersehen. Handelt es sich ja um ein standard Unix.

Ich vermute das IBM ziemlich genau weiss, das Solaris fuer PowerPC doch recht gefährlich ist. Zu schade, das man nicht jedes Betriebsystem auf diesen Rechnern starten kann ...
