Nach den General Sessions des Vormittags starten jetzt wieder die Breakouts. Die erste Veranstaltung für mich ist ein Vortrag über Honeycomb. Honeycomb ist ein sogenannter "object storage system".

Man betrachtet ein Archiv nicht mehr als Filesystem, sondern als eine Sammlung von Objekten mit Eigenschaften (Metadaten) und den Daten selber. Das Konzept ist wirklich interssant. Man stelle sich vor, das man in seiner Bildersammlung nicht ueber ein Verzeichnis navigiert, sondern ueber die EXIF-Daten. Ja ... nichts neues... machen Photoworkflowtools auch heute ... bei Honeycomb ist das aber Aufgabe des Servers. Je nach dem wie man es braucht, kann man sich dann virtuelle Sichten auf seinen Objektpool erzeugen. So wie das in Honeycomb gemacht wird, sind die Möglichkeiten dazu umfangreich und endlos. Ein paar zusätzliche Informationen sind bereits auf docs.sun.com zu finden, dort ist bereits die Dokumentation einsehbar.

Wie bindet man denn da die Clients an? Gibts dafuer eine spezielle Client-Software? Oder via NFS?

Ansonsten klingt das toll, wann/wie kann man das testen?

Da musst Du Dich mit deinem Sun Salesrep auseinandersetzen. Das Produkt ist in einem etwas merkwürdigen Ankündigungszustand. Es ist da, aber noch nicht offiziell angekündigt.

Bin schon mal gespannt die erste Anwendung zu sehen, wobei ich den Verdacht hatte, dass man in der Beta zum neuen Knowledge Base Interface mit Honeycomb in Kontakt gekommen ist.
