Obwohl Dtrace eigentlich sehr mit C im Hinterkopf entwickelt worden ist, so ist doch möglich, DTrace auch in anderen Programmiersprachen zur Anwendung zu bringen, zum Beispiel unter Fortran 95. Ich glaube gerade deshalb weil ich Dtrace in einer Vielzahl von Komponenten verwenden kann, könnte Solaris und Opensolaris in Zukunft eine stärkere Rolle als primäres Zielsystem für Opensource-Entwicklungen zukommen. Von einigen kommerziellen Entwicklungen weiss ich bereits, das unter anderem DTrace für einen solchen Schwenk gesorgt hat.

Kannst Du bitte das ein oder andere Beispiel nennen? Solche waeren ueberaus hilfreich, wenn man Leute auf den DTrace und OpenSolaris Pfad bringen will. Oracle waere wohl ein Beispiel.
Ach ja, Sun taete gut daran mehr Werbung dafuer zu machen, dass die Compiler nun kostenlos verfuegbar sind. Ich habe bisher mit keiner nicht-Sun- oder nicht-OpenSolaris-Person geredet, die davon wusste, dass man heute nicht mehr BigBucks abdruecken muss.
